Kitchen Remodel

Its always a thrill to update a kitchen.  Whether with paint or pulling the whole thing out.

When my client Heather called to say she was ready to update her kitchen from country to modern, I was excited to tackle this project.

After planning the layout and getting the permits finally we were ready to begin the transformation. Below is a glimpse of how we transformed the kitchen into a modern space that reflects the different facets of my client’s taste.

My client did not want to just change the cabinets – she wanted a sleek smooth kitchen that embraced her style.

Some walls needed to be pulled out to studs.  The entrance to the kitchen was narrow and the opening above the sink created another fussy element.

On the other side of the kitchen was the display cabinets filled with pretty Italian ceramics. With wall openings leading into the dining room and hall.  The flow needed updating so the area in front of the island felt like part of the kitchen.

Opposite the entry to the kitchen was the laundry area, hidden behind folding doors. and an open area for dining.

There were folding doors for the pantry and kitchen supplies. So the kitchen appeared busy to the naked eye with all these mixed elements.

Next to the kitchen was the tv room, where my client and her family spent a good portion of their time, close to the heart of the home.  There were doors that were never used, and a fairly narrow opening, with some lovely doors leading to a small patio outside.

The stage was set to begin the big tear out.  First packing away all the contents of the kitchen. Quite a task. Its amazing how much stuff one collects. For something and someday!

After everything was packed in storage, the day finally dawned to begin the transformation one slow step at a time.

All the cabinets get pulled out, after the island is removed. All the appliances get taken out.  The room appears so big. Its amazing how big the space is when its empty.

The studs are bare

There is a lot of  stuff tp tear out.  Old appliances and cabinets, the washing machine and dryer are all moved out to make way for the changes.

More exciting happenings will be revealed in the next episode of Kitchen Makeover.  Stay tuned.

What would your ideal kitchen makeover look like?   Its never to early to dream big.
